That most annoying of kitchen oversights–forgetting about the pot you have boiling on the stove until the water evaporates and you start smelling the smoke! Hopefully you haven’t set off the fire alarm but for the smoke a fan in a window will clear out your home in a little while. What do you do about the burnt pot though?

Here is a guide to cleaning out a burnt pot using household items such as vinegar, lemon, and baking soda. Several methods are listed here. My favorite is to simply pour enough white vinegar to cover the bottom of the pot, let it simmer for several minutes, then add baking soda, which will fizz while it does its work. This will get a lot of the gunk. Then use a scrubby to get the rest.

No reason to throw out that pot!
