I can tell you, from having a long haired cat, that pet hair can really accumulate. There are some things you can do, though, to cut down on the mess. Here are some hacks for how to clean shedding pet hair in your home.

1. Let’s start with your pet. Combing your dog or cat’s fur frequently helps a great deal. With long haired animals daily brushing is a good idea. There are also undercoat combs, called furminator brush, that can make a big difference, allowing you to get that deeper layer of hair that surface thorough tool.

2. With dogs, bathing is also very helpful. Soap or shampoo cuts down on both hair and dander.

3. Here’s a cleaning hack for getting fur off upholstery. What vacuuming won’t do, I like to us a swivel lint brush that removes the hair when you use it in one direct and then easily releases it when you rub the brush in another direction. Masking-tape link removers do the same thing but I find that they fill up too quickly. In a pinch, a damp cloth will also pick up stay pet hair.

4. For carpets, standard vacuuming usually does the job. For hard floors, a quick daily vacuum or for a more eco-friendly approach, having a dry mop handy for daily use will keep the hair under control. Don’t forget to look in the corners.

5. Be sure to wash your pet’s bedding also.

6. And for extra effectiveness with your laundry routine, use a dryer sheet, which cuts down on the static cling and makes the pet hair easier for the dryer to remove.

7. Finally, a humidifier will cut down on static in your home and reduce the among of pet hair that clings to countertops and other surfaces.

Hope this helps!
